Fucose Binding Cancels out Mechanical Differences between Distinct Human Noroviruses

چکیده

The majority of nonbacterial gastroenteritis in humans and livestock is caused by noroviruses. Like most RNA viruses, frequent mutations result various norovirus variants. strain-dependent binding profiles noroviruses to fucose are supposed facilitate infection. It remains unclear, however, what the molecular mechanism behind functioning is. In this study, applying atomic force microscopy (AFM) nanoindentation technology, we studied norovirus-like particles (noroVLPs) three distinct human We found differences viral mechanical properties even between variants from same genogroup. noroVLPs were then subjected treatment. Surprisingly, after treatment, previously considerable among these diminished. attribute a dynamic switch P domain upon reduced across tested These findings shed light on mechanisms used capsids adapt environmental changes and, possibly, increase cell Hereby, new step towards connecting prevalence taken.

Porcine Noroviruses Related to Human Noroviruses

Detection of genogroup II (GII) norovirus (NoV) RNA from adult pigs in Japan and Europe and GII NoV antibodies in US swine raises public health concerns about zoonotic transmission of porcine NoVs to humans, although no NoVs have been detected in US swine. To detect porcine NoVs and to investigate their genetic diversity and relatedness to human NoVs, 275 fecal samples from normal US adult swin...

Noroviruses: the perfect human pathogens?

Noroviruses are perhaps the perfect human pathogens. These viruses possess essentially all of the attributes of an ideal infectious agent: highly contagious, rapidly and prolifically shed, constantly evolving, evoking limited immunity, and only moderately virulent, allowing most of those infected to fully recover, therebymaintaining a large susceptible pool of hosts. These characteristics have ...

Yilmaz Cancels Newton *

A central tenet of the new theory of gravity proposed by H. Yil-maz is the inclusion of a gravitational stress-energy tensor −t µ ν along with the matter stress-energy tensor T µ ν on the right hand side of the Einstein field equations. This change does not effect the New-tonian limit of the field equations since these terms are quadratic in potential gradients. From the Bianchi identities, how...

Within-host evolution results in antigenically distinct GII.4 noroviruses.

UNLABELLED Genogroup II, genotype 4 (GII.4) noroviruses are known to rapidly evolve, with the emergence of a new primary strain every 2 to 4 years as herd immunity to the previously circulating strain is overcome. Because viral genetic diversity is higher in chronic than in acute infection, chronically infected immunocompromised people have been hypothesized to be a potential source for new epi...
